Cheyenne Smith News & Comics: My Top Ten Animated Ladies: # 5 Marjane Satrapi ↘

Congrats, we’ve made it half way through our list of two dimensional dames! Number five comes all the way from Iran. And Austria… and France. Both an internationally acclaimed graphic novel and Academy Award nominated feature film, Persepolis perfectly combines plot and character development…

It’s usually the French complaining about English people ‘butchering’ their language, after watching Persepolis I’ve just realised the ridiculousness of French people trying to sing along to songs in English.

This and when the King of England says “Bien sur!” are my two favorite audio parts in the movie.

"Momo: Life is a void. When man realizes that he can no longer live,
so he invents power games…
Marjane as a teenager: Bullshit! Life isnt absurd! Some people give
their lives for freedom. You think my uncle died for fun?
Egotistical prick."

"Listen. I dont like to preach, but here’s some advice. You’ll meet a lot of jerks in life. If they hurt you, remember its because theyre stupid. Don’t react to their cruelty. Theres nothing worse than bitterness and revenge. Keep your dignity and be true to yourself."
